Home to stunning night skies and 360-degree jaw-dropping views, Alamosa offers the perfect setting for a romantic escape. From walks along the river to starlit strolls on the tallest dunes in North America, Alamosa has everything you need for your next long weekend getaway.

Day One: A Morning Stroll, A Scenic Drive and Stargazing

Grab breakfast and coffee at Milagros. Located on the corner of State and Main, this coffee shop boasts “Great Coffee for a Great Cause”. After fueling up, enjoy a relaxed stroll through downtown Alamosa. Browse Antiques and locally crafted gifts, historic buildings and sculptures on loan featured throughout downtown Alamosa.

Local TIp: Stop by the Colorado Welcome Center in Alamosa before your walk for a Historic Walking Tour Brochure.  That way, you can learn about Alamosa's fascinating history while you enjoy your walk.  Downtown, you'll also notice a collection of public art.  Thanks to Alamosa's Artscape program, you can also enjoy our outdoor art gallery on your walk! 

Enjoy a leisurely lunch Calvillos a lively eatery offering menu options along with an all-day buffet in relaxed roomy digs. After lunch hit the road for a drive on the Los Caminos Antiguos Scenic & Historic Byway. Translated to the ancient roads, the drive tours through the Century Spanish territorial expansion at its northernmost boundary. The route winds along the upper Rio Grande region through some of Colorado’s oldest towns surrounded by panoramic views in all directions.  

Stop in Fort Garland at the Silver Sage Steakhouse for dinner. Open at 3 pm Thursday through Sunday the steakhouse is known for the casual environment, genuine staff, and incredible food.

End the day under stunning Colorado sky.  At the Great Sand Dunes half the park is after dark, take advantage by soaking up the star-filled night sky Star Gazing at the Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve.

Day Two: Hiking, A Picnic and A Drive-In Movie

Grab a hearty breakfast from the ROAST Café, a craft coffee shop, and restaurant in downtown Alamosa. After breakfast load up the cooler with a picnic – We recommend Locavores-offering fresh inspired local fare including box lunches perfect for an open-air picnic.

Make your way west to Penitente Canyon (53 Miles from Alamosa). The Canyon trails offer several interconnecting loops with varying levels of difficulty, from easy to difficult, check out the Trail Guide to plan the perfect day, complete with your picnic lunch.

Grab a wood-fired pizza a local brew from 3 Barrel Brewing Company for dinner. Located in Del Norte, this self-proclaimed “small, out of the way Southern CO Craft Brewery” offers beer crafted with locally grown malt, local hops, honey, and fresh mountain water.

After dinner check out the Star Drive in Movie Theatre for a killer date night experience. Reminiscent of bygone days filled with malt shakes, letterman jackets and "going steady" a fun flick on an outdoor screen makes for the perfect way to end the day.

Day Three: A Sunrise Stroll, Hot Springs and Paint & Sip Date Night

Grab a quick bite at the hotel so you can catch the sunrise over the mountains at the Alamosa Wild Life Refuge. Be sure to bring a camera so you can take advantage of the unobstructed views and wildlife sightings.

For lunch head to the Mile Deep Grill at the Sand Dunes Swimming Pool and Hot Springs, where there is something to satisfy everyone's cravings, then settle in for a soak in the Greenhouse. This adults-only soaking escape features 3 small soaking tubs with varying temperatures, a 10 foot by 75 foot zero entry pool complete with water fountain feature, a 10 person sauna, gardens, numerous deck and patio spaces, and an onsite libation stop, Steel Box Bar.

Once you’re thoroughly relaxed head back to Alamosa for dinner at the Rubi Slipper. Enjoy burgers, salads, chili, nachos, and Buffalo wings, and save room for dessert, you won’t regret it. Get in touch with your creative side for a sip and paint date at The Wet Paintbrush. All levels of artistic ability are welcome in a fun and relaxing environment.
