During the month of April, we're launching a campaign to Celebrate the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve! National Parks Week is April 17-25, and we're extending that celebration all month long. When you visit Alamosa during April 2021, be on the lookout for displays of our love for our favorite National Park. The “We Love Our National Park” campaign will feature flags displayed downtown, posters, stickers, digital promotion, and special events throughout the month.
Each year in April since 1991, National Parks across the country celebrate National Park Week (NPW) with special programs, events, and fee-free days. This year, National Park Week is April 17-25. This makes April the perfect time to raise appreciation of our National Park, and to celebrate all that it brings to our community! Thousands of travelers from around the world travel to the Great Sand Dunes each year to explore all that the park has to offer. The National Park is dedicated to conserving the ecosystem, wildlife, and scenic beauty of this natural resource. The Park creates numerous programs, and hosts cultural events celebrating local history and heritage. This vigilant work enriches the entire region. As the Gateway to the Great Sand Dunes, Alamosa appreciates the overwhelming benefit to our community that having the National Park brings.
We have invited businesses and organizations throughout the community to celebrate by sharing the ‘We love our National Park’ message, displaying posters, and creating themed displays or menu items. As part of our celebration, we have distributed seven-hundred vouchers to our lodging partners that they will be gifting to some of their guests all month long. The City of Alamosa, Alamosa County, and San Luis Valley Federal Bank have generously supported this project to increase the amount of vouchers to be released.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with the business community to raise awareness and appreciation for the Great Sand Dunes. '' Said Kale Mortensen, Executive Director, at Visit Alamosa.
