Join Us in Celebrating the Great Sand Dunes National Park
It’s no secret that we love our local National Park, so we figured why not give it the recognition it deserves? With “National Parks Week” slated for April 22-30, we figured we’d up the ante by extending this celebration through the entire month of April. Throughout the month, visitors can attend a new roster of special events, find free swag at the Welcome Center, and access vouchers to be used throughout Alamosa. As the gateway to the Great Sand Dunes National Park, we invite you to join in on the fun by exploring and experiencing all that the park has to offer.
Discover the Park
The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is one of Colorado’s four National Parks and is located conveniently near Alamosa in the Mystic San Luis Valley. The park contains the tallest sand dunes in North America and its vast dune field covers more than 30 sq. miles! The park is further distinguished by its unique biological diversity, as visitors can explore wetlands, forests, tundra, and more ecosystems all within a single afternoon. During the month of April, visitors can find earn a special discount code for participating partners by just sharing what they love about the Great Sand Dune National Park in the form below. Once you have recieved a voucher, you can redeem it at participating locations. Kick-Off Celebration at First Fridays
We're kicking off We Love Our National Park month during First Fridays with Visit Alamosa. This First Fridays will be something special, as we're shutting down a section of San Juan Avenue for a block party! This special edition of First Fridays will feature live entertainment by Adams State University students, followed by the Celtic (K)nots, and a special appearance by the Salida Circus. Great Sand Dunes Park Rangers will host several information tables and activities for all ages. Visit Alamosa will host a libation station, free mini golf, and various ways to win “We Love Our National Park” swag and gift vouchers. It begins at 4pm on April 7!
Special Events
Visit Alamosa will be sponsoring Trivia Night at Spare Keg Brewerks on April 5. There will be bonus games, Great Sand Dunes themed bonus questions and prizes from Visit Alamosa.
A series of special events will be held throughout the month at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Head to our Event Calendar to view the full list of special events offered by the Great Sand Dunes National Park’s team, including B.A.R.K. in the Park, Ranger meet and greets, and more. National Park Week is happening April 22 to April 30 this year. Entrance fees will be waived on April 22, 2023, to kick off the celebration and to encourage everyone to enjoy their national parks in person.
