Homelake Veteran’s History Museum is a hidden gem that is worth the drive to explore! Located on the beautiful, historic grounds of the Colorado Veterans Home at Home Lake, the state’s very first veterans’ home established in 1889, the Home Lake Veterans History Museum is a true hidden gem for history lovers and patriots alike. Just a 15 minute drive from Alamosa, this deeply moving museum honors the sacrifices of Colorado’s service members from the Civil War to the present day.
Housed in a beautifully preserved historic building, the museum showcases an impressive and deeply personal collection of military artifacts. Visitors can explore rows of authentic vintage uniforms, historical photographs, military equipment, medals, and a fascinating array of personal letters and diaries that tell the real stories of the men and women who served. The dedicated, passionate staff provides rich context to the exhibits, making it an educational and memorable stop for families, veterans, and tour groups.

Wednesday May 27th until Friday October 2nd 2026.
Museum hours will be Wednesday through Friday 9am – 3pm.
