Experience one of nature’s most breathtaking migrations right here in our backyard! Every spring, the San Luis Valley becomes a sanctuary for thousands of Sandhill Cranes as they journey North. While these elegant birds stop in many places, there is truly nowhere like the Monte Vista Crane Festival to witness the magic.

Between the jagged, snow-capped peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the vast, open skies of the valley floor, you’ll find an unmatched wildlife viewing experience paired with the warm, small-town hospitality that defines our region.

You do not need a ticket to see the cranes! The magic of the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge is open to everyone. We encourage you to drive down, find a viewing spot, and take in the spectacle at your own pace.
