Big Screen on the Green

Thursdays, August 13 – September 17 | Richardson Hall Lawn (The Green), Adams State University

Experience the magic of the San Luis Valley at twilight with Big Screen on the Green! This free series transforms the heart of campus into an open-air cinema. Whether you’re a local or visiting for the weekend, there’s no better way to cap off a warm summer day than with a free movie night under our famous high-desert stars.

The fun starts at 6 pm! Before the opening credits roll, the lawn comes alive with local food trucks, outdoor games like cornhole and spike ball, and the fan-favorite mini-putt course.

This event is completely free and open to all, making it the perfect budget-friendly outing for families, students, and travelers alike. Movies begin immediately following sunset, but we recommend arriving early to enjoy the local food truck offerings and pre-show games and entertainment. Guests are encouraged to bring their own low-profile lawn chairs or thick blankets for seating on the grass. While snacks are welcome, please note that this is a family-friendly environment designed for all ages to enjoy the cool high-altitude evenings together.

Pro-Traveler Tips

  • The Valley Chill: Even if it’s 85°F at noon, temperatures in Alamosa drop once the sun dips behind the San Juan Mountains. Bring a heavy sweatshirt or an extra blanket. You’ll want it by the second act!
  • Check the Lineup: Be sure to check back soon for the full movie and pre-show entertainment schedule.
  • Arrive Early for Eats: The food truck lines are part of the fun, but the best spots on the lawn fill up fast. Aim to arrive at least 45 minutes before sunset to snag your spot on the green.
