Swimming & Hot Springs
Open year round is the Sand Dunes Swimming Pool & RV Park. During the early 1930's hot water was struck near Hooper while drillers were exploring for oil. The hot well water enters the 150,000 gallon pool at 118 degrees and the pool's temperature is maintained between 98 and 102 degrees depending on the season. The adjoining 24 person therapy pool stays a consistent 108 to 109 degrees. The pool offers Colorado's best snack bar, family fun, relaxation and rejuvenation, just 20 miles from Alamosa.
For family lodging with great swimming for the kids and parents alike, Alamosa's most popular full service hotel, the Inn of the Rio Grande features an indoor water park, a swimming pool and a relaxing spa including a whirlpool, sauna, and fitness room. The Inn of the Rio Grande Waterpark features three pools. Kids will be thrilled to slide down the 21-foot high, 155 foot long giant water slide.
Adults appreciate Joyful Journey Hot Springs, this quiet, peaceful spa retreat located at the northern gateway to the San Luis Valley is a favorite destination for the healing, relaxing effect of natural hot water under the clear skies of the valley. They offer three outdoor tiled geothermal soaking pools, surrounded by decks and magnificent panoramic views. Also schedule a massage while you are visiting. The hot springs are located about 45 minutes north of Alamosa.
